What is EGR Off software?
EGR Off software is a professional ECU calibration tool that logically disables the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve in the engine control unit. It keeps the valve permanently closed, removes flow and temperature checks, and clears all related fault codes for an invisible deletion.
The EGR is an anti-pollution system that recirculates part of the exhaust gases into the intake to reduce NOx emissions. Over time, it causes significant carbon buildup in the valve, intake manifold, EGR cooler and turbocharger.

Compatible ECUs for EGR delete by actuator type
Unlike DPF, which follows generational logic, EGR valve deactivation depends on the mechatronic architecture: actuator type, presence or absence of position feedback, and control strategy (MAF-based loop or position-based loop). MapX-R Flash adapts the patch accordingly. Here are the supported ECUs classified by EGR typology — this classification determines the codes to neutralize.
Vacuum-controlled pneumatic EGR (older CR and IDI diesels)
The EGR valve is vacuum-actuated via a solenoid (typically N18 on VAG, EV6/EV7 on PSA). The ECU receives no position feedback — control runs open-loop through the airflow meter (MAF). Deactivation simply forces the duty cycle to 0% and inhibits code P0401 (insufficient EGR flow). No position simulation needed.
High-pressure electric EGR (HP-EGR) with position sensor
Introduced with Euro 5, the valve becomes an electric actuator (DC or stepper motor) with integrated position sensor. Closed-loop control: the ECU commands a setpoint and compares to actual feedback. Logical deactivation must therefore simulate a feedback signal consistent with the setpoint (internal recopy) to avoid codes P0488 (EGR position out of range), P0489 (circuit low) and P0402 (excessive flow). Dual-circuit EGR (HP-EGR + LP-EGR), Euro 6 / 6d
The most complex configuration: two cascaded valves — one high-pressure between exhaust and turbo intake, one low-pressure downstream of the DPF recirculating to the intake. The ECU dynamically arbitrates the HP/LP ratio based on catalyst temperature and engine load. Full deactivation requires independent neutralization of both loops: codes P0401/P0402 for HP, P040D/P040E for LP, plus inhibition of EGR ΔP sensors if present.
EGR with coupled intake throttle
On certain architectures, the EGR valve is only effective if an intake throttle creates partial vacuum. Deactivating EGR alone may generate code P2100 (intake throttle) if its control is not neutralized in parallel. MapX-R Flash automatically detects the presence of a coupled throttle and handles both in the same patch.
Actuator type detection runs automatically when the ORI file is opened, thanks to the Bosch fingerprint (SW version). If the ECU is not recognized, MapX-R Flash offers a manual mode with assisted selection.

Frequently asked questions about EGR Off software
Is EGR Off legal?
EGR deletion is only legal for off-road use: racing, track, off-road vehicles. It is up to the professional and end customer to verify the legality in their country. MapX-R Flash provides the technical tool only.
Does EGR Off also clear fault codes?
Yes, MapX-R Flash automatically clears all EGR-related fault codes: P0401 through P0409, plus manufacturer-specific codes (PSA, VAG, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Renault). No more dashboard warnings.
Do I also need to physically disconnect the EGR valve?
No, it's not required. The valve remains in place, but the ECU keeps it permanently closed. Some tuners prefer to install a blanking plate as a complement, but it's not necessary for proper operation.
